The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street (realistic fiction) is written by Karina Yan Gaser. Its about a family (the Vanderbeekers) that live in Harlem New York. More specifically, a brown stone on 141 street. Oliver is a keen reader and younger then the twins, Isa and Jessie. Isa is a flexible musician, but she loves to play the violin. Jessie is like a mad scientist, crazy hair, and she has the same mind as any mad scientist. Hyacinth is the middle child if you count Isa and Jessie as one person, she likes to finger knit, makes arts and crafts for the family, and loves to hang out with the family dog. Laney, the youngest, is just as playful as any 4 year old! Their parents love them so much, and their mom is a great baker! Their landlord, Mr. Beiderman is a grumpy old (ish) man still thinking about what happened to his wife and daughter and has decided not to renew the Vanderbeekers lease. How will the twins, Oliver, Hyacinth, and Laney take the big news? Well all I'll tell you is that they set on a mission to get things right! Read the book to find out more!

contemporary! I don't often like those kinds of books, but this is this is the jackpot!
Is this book set in contemporary Harlem or in the past?
This series is so good! Every time they came with a problem I bit my nails and every time they overcame a challenge I cheered for them. I have read every book in the series and I could not have explained it more beautifully!
