The One and Only Ivan (Realistic-ish fiction) is written by Katherine Applegate. She makes it feel like your actually having a conversation with Ivan. Ivan is a gorilla, a mighty silver back if you will. And he lives in a circus, there is a little ferocious stray dog named Bob that shares his domain. But her best friend is Stella, the wise elephant. They get abused at the circus. And one day new arrival comes to the circus (ran by Mack) and her name is Ruby. Stella takes Ruby in like if she were her own. Why did the wise old elephant take in the new addition to the circus? Read the book to find out!
